Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (1-4-0) fell at home against Indy Eleven (1-2-2) at H-E-B Park on Saturday night. Frank Lopez scored the lone goal for RGV on the night.
Rio Grande tested Indy Eleven early as Borczak and Ricky Ruiz connected on breakaway play in the box, but Ruiz lost his footing and was unable to capitalize on the chance in the sixth minute. As was the case in the midweek U.S Open Cup match for the Toros, high pressure was the playstyle which allowed for seven first half shots, one on target.
Indy Eleven was limited to just one shot and possessed 44% of the opening half. The defense allowed 10 crosses from Rio Grande, which caused discomfort in the back line as they played back most of the first half.
Frank Lopez found a loose ball in the 56th minute and dribbled to the top of the box where he took a direct shot at goal. Elliot Pannico deflected the shot over the goal to give the Toros a corner and end the immediate threat.
In the 69th minute Stefano Pinho controlled a ball with his chest and shot from just inside the box to the center of the goal, past Colin Miller to score the opening goal of the match and give Indy the lead, 0-1.
Pinho scored a brace in the match at the 78th minute on an attacking play from the right wing where he scooted into the box and dribbled to the center of the box and tapped in a direct shot at goal, 0-2. This goal proved to be the deciding factor in the match as Indy claimed the win.
Frank Lopez tapped in a shot inside the 6-yard box as a play developed from the right wing to make the match, 1-2. Lopez has now scored three goals in league competition, four overall counting the U.S Open Cup.
