Reynish Wins 2013 NASL Golden Glove

NEW YORK (Nov. 5, 2013) - The North American Soccer League announced today that New York Cosmos Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish has won the 2013 NASL Golden Glove award after recording the lowest Goals Against Average (GAA) of 0.92 during the regular season.

Reynish has started and played every minute in 13 of the 14 Cosmos games during the NASL Fall Season, posting a record of 8 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss, while earning five shutouts. Goalkeepers had to play a minimum of 10 games in 2013 to be eligible for the honor.

Of the clean sheets, three came on the road against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (0-0), Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2-0) and Minnesota United FC (1-0), while the other two came in home victories over United FC (1-0) and the Carolina RailHawks (4-0).

"It's very exciting to earn this award during such a special season for our club," Reynish said. "It's a reflection of all our hard work and how well the guys in front of me played this year. It also shows Memo's [Goalkeeper coach Guillermo Valencia] great coaching and how important the training with Jimmy [Maurer], Chad [Calderone] and Bryan [Meredith] has been all season long."

Reynish's performance was key factor in the Cosmos finishing on top of the 2013 NASL Fall Season standings that earned a berth at NASL Soccer Bowl 2013 this coming Saturday, November 9, against the Spring champion Atlanta Silverbacks. The clash kicks off at 7:30 pm ET, live on ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes.

"This is a very well-deserved honor for Kyle and our club," Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. "I'm extremely proud of him and the tireless work ethic he showed all year, as has our entire team. It also shows how well our team played as a strong, cohesive unit. Now we have to perform that way one more time and I believe we will."

The native of Valencia, CA joined the Cosmos from Real Salt Lake where he served as the backup to MLS All-Star goalkeeper Nick Rimando since 2007. After being drafted by Real Salt Lake in the fourth round (43rd overall) of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, Reynish spent six seasons in Utah and impressed whenever called upon.

In college, Reynish won a national title at the University of California-Santa Barbara. During his four-year career there, he recorded an impressive 0.82 GAA, 33-13-4 record and 23 shutouts.

Reynish joins former NASL Golden Glove winners Evan Bush (Montreal Impact 2011) and Daryl Sattler (San Antonio Scorpions 2012) in winning the award.
