Revs Take on Mesquite Marshals
May 20, 2016 - Champions Indoor Football (CIF)
Texas Revolution News Release
This weekend's matchup between your Texas Revolution and their crosstown rival, the Mesquite Marshals in The Battle of the Dallas Metroplex. The game promises to showcase some intriguing matchups. One of those matchups is the matchup between Revolution Quarterback, Robert Kent Junior and Marshal's Quarterback, Kolton Browning. Both Browning and Kent have skill sets that make them a difficult matchup for any defense. Kent has a wealth of experience in professional football, both indoors and out. He spent time in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, in 2014. He also spent time in the Canadian Football League in the mid-2000's, before beginning his career in indoor football. He signed with the Revolution in 2015, for the CIF's inaugural season. Since then Kent, has been setting the standard for elite Quarterback play in the CIF. He has led the Revolution to a playoff berth in both 2015 and 2016 seasons. This season Kent has passed for 55 touchdowns and compiled nearly 3,000 passing yards, while completing 60% of his attempts.
Conversely, Browning's season has been more trying than it has been prolific. The team has struggled. Browning has only passed for 791 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging 113 yards passing per game. He has completed 54% of his attempts. Browning's strength, however, is his ability to make plays with his legs. He currently leads the Marshals in rushing, with 52 attempts for 345 yards. On the season, Browning is averaging 6.6 yards per carry. His big play ability was evident earlier in the year, when he had a season-long rush of 45 yards.
Friday night's contest will be a great test for the Marshals Defensive Backs, as they will have to go up against Revolution Wide Receivers Clinton Solomon, Tavarres "Blimp" Williams, and Joe Adams. Both Adams and Solomon played in the NFL, with the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears respectively. Williams played previously in the Lone Star Football League (LSFL), which merged with the Champions Professional Indoor League (CPIFL) to form the CIF. In his first full season with the Revolution, Williams has caught 36 passes, for 519 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has quickly become one of Quarterback, Robert Kent's favorite targets and he is on his way to becoming an elite Receiver in the league. Mesquite defensive backs Anguani Frazier, Larry Miller Junior, and Joseph Powell have combined for eight interceptions this season. They will undoubtedly have their hands full against the Revolution's prolific trio of pass catchers.
Although it is abnormal, the most intriguing matchup of the night may play out on special teams. Marshals defensive back, Larry Miller Junior, currently leads the CIF with over 700 kick return yards. He is averaging 21 yards per return and is season-long return is 48 yards. Wide Receiver, Joe Adams is the Revolution's kick returner. As an NFL player, he was primarily a kick return specialist. As a college player at the University of Arkansas, Adams was one of college football's most exciting Returners. As a senior, he earned consensus All-American honors. In May, Adam's signed with the Revolution and he has made an immediate impact. In 11 returns with the Revolution, Adam's has gained 255 yards and is averaging 23.2 yards per return. In the Revolution's last game against the Dodge City Law, he had a 52 yard return for a touchdown. When the ball is in his hands, the Revolution prosper.
Friday, May 20th , the Battle of the Dallas Metroplex will be fought. Don't miss your chance to see this high flying, action-packed, and hard-hitting display of indoor football at its finest.
