Foxborough, Mass. - Major League Soccer held its 2006 Expansion Draft on Friday, with New England Revolution midfielder José Cancela among the 10 players chosen by Toronto FC to begin constructing its roster for the 2007 season. Toronto FC, MLS's 13th team, will begin play in the Eastern Conference in the 2007 season at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
Toronto FC selected a player from each of the six Eastern Conference teams and one from four Western Conference teams. FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids were the two teams that did not have a player selected in the draft.

Cancela appeared in 84 games, starting 73, for the Revs after signing with the club on July 22, 2003 as a Discovery Player from Montevideo, Uruguay. He scored six goals and ranks third in club history with 27 assists, including a team-best 10 during the 2004 season. Cancela is also ranked first in club history in corner kicks taken (330) and second in club history with 263 fouls suffered. In 2006, Cancela appeared in 21 games, starting 15, for New England, recording five assists, while recording team highs in corner kicks (71) and fouls suffered (67).
