Revolution's Playoff Run Comes to An End

Saturday night at HR Bio Protect field at the Allen Event Center the Revolution dropped a close game to the Amarillo Venom in the Semi-Finals of the CIF Playoffs. ?To open tonights contest, the Revolution surrounded a Rouge (1 point) to the Venom. Darius Fudge put the Revolution in position to score the games first touchdown with a long run after his first catch. He scored on the following play to put the Revolution up 7-0 over Amarillo.
Following a block in the back penalty, the Venom began the opening drive at the 5-yard line. Quarterback Nate Davis connected with Receiver Tommy Curry with 7:35 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7. The Venom then took a 1-point lead with a successful two point try. Thirty seconds later, the Revolution offense struck again to take a 13-8 lead. ?Following a Revolution kickoff, Quarterback Nate Davis took a shot to the endzone and connected with Receiver Raymond Johnson Jr. making the score 15 -13 in favor of Amarillo. The ensuing Revolution drive was capped off by another Darius Fudge rushing touchdown, which gave the Revolution a 20-15 lead three quarters of the way through the opening quarter. The Revolution defense held the Venom offense at bay for the remainder of the quarter.
The Venom offense began the 2nd quarter with a completion to Receiver Greg Jones. Two plays later, they took their final timeout of the first half. After a missed field goal by Amarillo, the Revolution offense took over at their own 5-yard line. Quarterback Robert Kent Jr. found Running Back Darius Fudge and Receiver Clinton Solomon in route to another Revolution touchdown, which extended their lead to 9. The next Venom drive the Revolution committed 3 key penalties, yielding a score. With the score at 26-22 in favor of the Revolution with 4:07 left in the first half, the Revolution offense began on the 18- yard line. Two plays later, Receiver LaDon Hudson extended the Revolution to double digits (11) to close out the first half on offense for the Revolution. A penalty ridden final 2 minutes for both teams left the score unchanged.
At halftime, CIF Commissioner Randy presented the end of year awards. Revolution Quarterback Robert Jr. received both the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards. The Revolution also took Franchise of the Year as well as Game Operations of the year honors. Revolution President, Charlie Hildbold was named CIF Executive of the year.
The Venom offense cut into the Revolution lead, scoring in two plays to begin the 3rd quarter.? The Revolutions second half opening dive ended with a Tarvarres Blimp Williams touchdown. Amarillo blocked the point after attempt, holding the Revolution lead to 10 (39-29). Julian Walker of the Venom scored shortly after to pull Amarillo within 3 points of the Revolution. The Venom recovered a momentum changing onside kick attempt immediately following their score to retain possession. ?They then took a 43-39 lead with 6:42 remaining in the quarter. However, the Amarillo lead was short lived. A 1 yard rushing score by Revolution newcomer, Undra Hendrix II reclaimed the lead for the Revolution. They then successfully executed a two-point conversion, making the score 47-43. With 2:05 to go in the quarter Venom Receiver Tommy Curry scored to give Amarillo their second lead of the night (50-47) to end the 3rd quarter.
The Revolution continued their drive at midfield to begin the games final quarter. After a number of Revolution defensive penalties, Amarillo was in scoring position. Then, it appeared that Revolution Safety Jerico Nelson had come up with game changing interception but the played was called back due to defensive pass interference. Three plays later, Amarillo extended their lead to 10 (57-47). The Revolution offense took to the air in an attempt to score quickly but they did not succeed. The Venom regained possession with just under 6 minutes remaining in regulation.? ?With 2:16 Remain, Defensive Back Anthony Webb came up with his biggest play of the season, an interception inside the Amarillo 20-yard line. Tarvarres Blimp Williams scored for a second time to pull the Revolution within 4. Sadly, the Revolution did not regain the lead. The Amarillo Venom advance to CIF Champions Bowl II against the Wichita Force, in Wichita, Kansas. The Revolution will be back for their fifth season in late February 2017.
