Revelers Clean Glass; Polish Off Riverdragons

Columbus Riverdragons News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga., (November 24, 2002) – Eugene Edgerson and recently activated power forward Derek Hood combined for 23 points and 19 rebounds to muscle the Mobile Revelers past the Columbus Riverdragons, 88-86, at the Columbus Civic Center Sunday night.

"The big difference was the addition of Derek Hood back into our lineup," said Revelers head coach Sam Vincent. "That gives us another guy that can go in and get rebounds and it also takes one more spot that the big guys have to think about. He had a double-effect tonight, 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench is a big contribution."

The Revelers (2-2) dominated the boards, beating the Riverdragons 19-8 on the offensive glass and 44-38 overall. Edgerson and Hood each posted five offensive rebounds a piece. Edgerson posted a double-double with his game-high 12 rebounds along with 11 points.

"We gave up 19 offensive rebounds," said Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone. "We talked about that earlier addressing the issue of my bigs. I've got a couple of bigs in my pocket. It's time for me to go shopping, probably. It's part of it. It's like boys versus men in terms of getting pushed out of the basket and not being able to rebound."

Bobby Simmons, the Revelers first round draft pick in the 2002 NBDL Draft, led Mobile in scoring with 19 points.

Nate Johnson paced the Riverdragons (3-2) with 25 points, leading five Riverdragons in double-figures. Johnson, the NBDL's leading scorer, has scored 20 points or more in four his first five games.

Power forward Derek Strong posted his first double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Jermaine Walker and Tang Hamilton added 14 and 12 points respectively for Columbus.

The Revelers lead by seven, 83-76, with 1:20 to play in regulation following two free throws by Simmons. The Riverdragons, however, rallied to close the gap to one, 87-86, on a 3-pointer by Jermaine Walker with 6.2 seconds left.

The Revelers Sean Colson made a free throw to give the Revelers a two-point cushion, 88-86 with 4.7 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Tang Hamilton launched an errant desperation shot from half court, handing the Revelers their first road victory of the season.

The Revelers have the week off to recuperate and will resume play Saturday, November 30 against N.Charelston back in Mobile. The Riverdargons host the Lowgators this Wednesday in Columbus at the Civic Center. The first 1, 00 fans will receive a Spider-Man poster promoting the release of the blockbuster film on DVD.
