Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. - Thursday, USL Championship announced that Republic FC midfielder Rodrigo Lopez has been named the Konami eFootball Player of the Month for August 2022. Lopez took 25% of the vote to claim the league's monthly top performer honor.
Lopez tallied a league-leading four assists and scored one goal in four appearances. He was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 22 after kicking off the month with club history - becoming the all-time club assists leader against New Mexico United - and leading a second come-from-behind result in as many matches with a stoppage-time equalizer. He tallied an assist each in his next two appearances to come within three of 50 for his pro career and finished eighth among all players in chances created with 12, just five back of the top spot in one fewer match played.
"This recognition for RoRo is well deserved," said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. "He's been the heartbeat of our team throughout the season, and his leadership during an important and busy stretch has been integral to the club's success."
Lopez's form also helped Republic FC maintain position in the crowded Western Conference table while balancing preparation for the U.S. Open Cup Final. Sacramento recorded an unbeaten 3-0-1 record in matches he appeared in, all against clubs in the playoff hunt to enter the final six weeks of the 2022 season in fourth place.
This is Lopez's first career win of the league's monthly top performer honor. He is the first Republic FC player to win the monthly award since its introduction ahead of the 2017 USL Championship season.
USL Player of the Month voting is conducted by a combination of fan vote (51% of the poll), the USL Technical Committee (25% of the poll), and the league's National Media Panel (24% of the poll). Lopez claimed 25% of the vote.
Republic FC takes the pitch again this Sunday from Heart Health Park on Youth Soccer Day, where the club will celebrate the region's players at all levels of the game. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. Tickets for the contest are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets, and fans in attendance will receive a team poster presented by Western Health Advantage.
