Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. - Today, Sacramento Republic FC announced a community investment initiative to support regional youth sports coaches.
As a thank you to the thousands of regional coaches that teach teamwork, leadership, compassion, health, wellness and so much more, Republic FC will provide free game tickets throughout the 2020 season. Youth coaches - from every sports background, not just soccer - are invited to join the Indomitable Club for a home match of their choice this season. To receive tickets, coaches can visit SacRepublicFC.com/thanks-coaches.
"Youth sports create many of the building blocks that make our community a vibrant and enriching place to live," said Sacramento Republic FC President and Chief Operating Officer Ben Gumpert - and U-8 girls Sierra Oaks Soccer Club volunteer coach. "Coaches provide strong role models, encouragement, and inspire the region's kids to become their best on and off the field. We're excited to support and honor area coaches as a small thank you for their immense impact."
Supporting youth development throughout the region is a core value of Republic FC's work to make the Capital Region into the most inspiring, energetic and rewarding place to live, work and play through the beautiful game. Not only does the club operate a top-flight soccer development academy, providing the technical instruction and resources to help young athletes achieve their dreams of becoming a professional soccer player, the team hosts youth camps and clinics and provides equipment and resources for youth clubs to promote play.
The club also proudly awards the Otto Massara Spirt Award annual to an individual that embodies the indomitable spirit, is dedicated to the growth of soccer and passionate about making an impact in the Sacramento community both on and off the pitch. Honorees will receive support from the club to extend their impact on the game through sponsorship for coaching licenses, providing equipment, and collaborating with the team, coaching staff, and players. Otto Massara, born in Oleggio, Italy, was a massively influential figure, credited with introducing soccer to Sacramento. Otto arrived in the California capital in the 1920s and began establishing leagues and soccer clubs throughout the region, including helping to charter the Central California Soccer League in 1958 which initially began in 1947 as an informal collection of immigrant teams. Otto passed away in 1997, but his ashes still blanket the field at O'Neil Park where his vision for soccer growth in Sacramento began and still continues to gain momentum to this very day.
As the club moves toward its inaugural season in Major League Soccer and opening a new world-class stadium in The Railyards in 2022, it will continue to build on the wide-reaching community investment initiatives. The club will continue monthly matches featuring staff and players at Folsom State Prison, creating futsal courts and spaces to encourage play, and supporting the growth of the women's game in Sacramento through coaching, clinics and a sports symposium.
