Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades are teaming up with the Canadian Red Cross to help raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Beginning with this Thursday's Renegades home game against the B.C. Lions (Sept. 8, 7 p.m., Frank Clair Stadium), the Renegades and Red Cross will be offering leftover ‘Mardi Gras' beads for a minimum donation of a toonie at Lansdowne Park. With approximately 20,000 sets of bead necklaces available, all monies raised will directly go toward the Red Cross relief efforts for the victims of the natural disaster.

"The Renegades family has been affected by Hurricane Katrina and so have thousands of other families," said Renegades president Lonie Glieberman. "This is our way of offering our fans a collectors' item, but most importantly providing a donation to the Red Cross for this terrible disaster. We encourage all of our supporters to help the Red Cross when they come to the game on Thursday."

The Ottawa Football Club has no short of a dozen players who have connections to the regions that the hurricane has hit. Linebacker Syniker Taylor is from Gulfport, Miss. - one of the areas hardest hit by the storm. Linebacker Keaton Cromartie lives in New Orleans, as does Renegades starting quarterback Kerry Joseph.

"The Red Cross appreciates the efforts of the Ottawa Renegades organization and what they are doing to help all of those in need," said Jane Buchan, District Branch Manager for the Canadian Red Cross. "We will continue working with the American Red Cross while people re-build their lives."

Volunteer vendors in red vests will have the beads available on game day. A toonie is a minimum offering and fans are encouraged to donate what they can for the hurricane relief efforts.

Ottawa returns to action on their home turf on Thursday, September 8 for a Week 11 affair against the B.C. Lions at Frank Clair Stadium. That is the first of two consecutive home games for the Renegades with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers coming to Lansdowne Park on Friday, Sept. 16. Tickets to both games are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
