Richmond Renegades News Release
THE BIG NEWS IS THE "SAVE OUR GADES PEP RALLY"..........which is being held on Thursday, March 5th from 6 - 8 pm. The rally, which was the brainchild of Tracy Hynes and embraced by three major sponsors (Virginia529.com College Education Program, Holiday Inn I-64 Crossroads and WYETH), is being held at the Holiday Inn I-64 located at 2000 Staples Mill Road one block north of Broad Street. Thanks to these great sponsors for stepping up and helping make this possible!
AT THE SILENT AUCTION you will have a chance to bid on over 40 items including dinner with the Renegades player of your choice; while the team and host restaurant pick up the tab, two goalie sticks autographed by the entire Renegades team, the #7 gold Renegades practice jersey autographed by the entire team and many, many other items.
The new "SAVE OUR GADES - PACK THE COLISEUM" t-shirts have arrived and are available for only $10 at our Coliseum office just in case you can't wait to get one at the rally. This afternoon we had great news that will make this rally a real blast! The VCU DANCE TEAM with leader Vicki Wells and team dancer Miss Renegades 2009 Megan Smith PLUS Mr. Energy - Ryan Kopacs and his VCU PEP BAND will also perform at the rally. You can meet and get your picture taken with your favorite Renegades player....or Coach! The Holiday Inn is providing FREE hors d'ouvres plus there will be a cash bar.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE RENEGADES - DON'T MISS THIS PEP RALLY!
******************** JUST IN CASE YOU HADN'T HEARD..........the Renegades are attempting to sell out the Coliseum for the final three home games on Friday, March 13th, Sunday, March 15th and Saturday, March 21st. To help in accomplishing this, the team has lowered ticket prices to $5 in the upper level and $10 in the lower level. This price includes all fees if purchased at the Renegades office or the Coliseum box office. Normal TicketMaster fees apply if purchased on the internet.
Why are the Renegades doing this? As has been reported, the Renegades will experience a shortfall in the range of $250,000 - $280,000 in their budgeted cash flow. This is caused by several sponsors not paying for their sponsorship, ticket sales not reaching projections and the overall condition of the economy.
In a brainstorming session, Renegades staff figured that if they could sell out the Coliseum for the final three games at the reduced seat prices they would net approximately $150,000. That would go a long way toward the anticipated shortfall previously noted. So the team made that their target and since that time many great fans, individuals and companies have jumped on board to "SAVE OUR RENEGADES". The pep rally on Thursday night is an example of this growing swell of support.
Each of the remaining home games have exciting events or giveaways with them. For example, Friday, March 13th is the 5th and final set of player cards courtesy of stepupandownit.com. Featured players in this set include Bill Zalba, Cody Cole, Mike Ronan, Jordan Weibel and a very special and secret fifth card.
On Sunday, March 15th we celebrate NASCAR/Richmond International Raceway day and this season we have, for the first time, included motorcycles in our event. There will be many NASCAR vehicles on display including the Richmond International Raceway pace car. These cars will all be paraded on the ice in the first intermission.
The addition of motorcycles to the day has made for a lot of excitement. Currently we are receiving word from many individuals and clubs across the state that are planning on coming to Richmond for the game. All show bikes will be displayed inside the Coliseum on the concourse level and that includes the Army National Guard's chopper which was made by the boys in Orange County.
Following the game you can Skate with the Players while the band, CULDERA performs for your enjoyment. You will also have a chance to win tickets to Richmond International Raceway for the spring and Indy car races.
If you are interested in bringing your motorcycle, "tricked out" or not, contact the Renegades office for details. Anyone who rides a bike to the game receives a free ticket and a special parking space for the day.
Our final day of the regular season will be something special for hockey fans. The Richmond Hockey Fights Cancer game will be played at 2:30 pm. If you purchase your ticket from RHFC, that ticket will admit you to all three.......that's right, THREE games played that day.
The LEGENDS OF RICHMOND HOCKEY GAME..........will take on a different format this season as you will get a chance to be up close and personal with the Legends. The game is on Saturday, March 21st at 5:30 pm and your ticket to the Renegades game or the Hockey for Hope (RHFC) game that day will admit you to the Legends game.
You can join the players for "LUNCH WITH THE LEGENDS" currently scheduled to be held at the Capital Ale House on Main Street at 11:30 am. Further details on this luncheon will be available in a future Fan Notes. This year the Legends of Richmond Hockey team will face off against the VCU Alumni hockey team.
HERE IS A LIST OF THE LEGEND PLAYERS..........who have committed to play in the game. There may be other players added as the game gets closer........BRIAN GOUDIE (D), BOB JONES (G), JOHN LOVELL (F), MIKE OWENS (D), KEVIN ST. JACQUE (F), RON PESETTI (D), SCOTT GRUHL (F), DAVID DARTSCH (F), DEREK SCHUTZ (F) and ROCKET ROD TAYLOR.
The feature event is your Richmond Renegades taking on the Knoxville IceBears at 7:35 pm with the national anthems being sung by Renegades favorite songbird, the fantastic BRIA KELLY! There will literally be hundreds of giveaways throughout the game and once again an opportunity to Skate with the Players following the game.
******************** WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL REQUEST..........actually a favor on behalf of our newest Renegades player, DYLAN ROW. Seems that he has a very large Great Dane for a pet and we won't be able to keep it in the apartments. We are trying to find a fan that can help by boarding Dylan's Great Dane for the balance of the season. If you think you might be able to help call the Renegades office at 804-644-7825. Thanks!
