Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club completed a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, acquiring a veteran Canadian offensive lineman in exchange for draft picks.

The Renegades announced Saturday the acquisition of Pascal Cheron, a five-year CFL veteran, through a trade with the Tiger-Cats. In exchange, Ottawa sent Hamilton its second round pick (11th overall) and a conditional 2006 selection in the next two Canadian College Drafts.

"Pascal is a good, young player, who is an experienced lineman," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manger of the Renegades. "We feel he has an excellent chance of making our starting line-up."

The product of Université Laval, started all 18 games in the 2003 season and played in each of Hamilton's games last year, including the October 30 finale – ironically enough, against Ottawa. He has played in 77 regular season games and two playoff contests during his career.

In 1999, weeks after being the sixth round (45th overall) of the 1999 Canadian College draft, Cheron attended Hamilton's training camp before going back to Laval to finish his eligibility – and helping the Rouge et Or win its first Vanier Cup national championship. In his rookie 2000 season, he played 14 games as a back-up offensive lineman; started two and saw action in 10 games in 2001 and followed that up by establishing himself as a starter in 2002 for 17 games.

Cheron, a native of Ste. Foy, Quebec, will bring plenty of size to the Renegades offensive line. The 30-year-old measures six-foot-four, 304 pounds.
