Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Renegades avoid being swept by the Batavia Muckdogs by winning the Sunday matinee, 8-6, in front of 506 fans at Dwyer Stadium. The victory brings the Renegades record to 28-27 and places them just 4.5 games behind the Wild Card leader, the Williamsport Crosscutters.

The Renegades offense was firing on all cylinders as six of the starting nine recorded a multiple-hit night in the team's 14-hit affair. Third baseman Nick Schwaner went 3-for-3, with two RBI and two walks while catcher Mayo Acosta slugged his fourth home run of the season in a 2-for-5 night with two runs scored, a double and one RBI.

Starter Jimmy Patterson continued to dominate on the mound hurling five innings of four-hit, one-run baseball before being lifted. Converted reliever, Devin Fuller came out of the bullpen and gave up four runs in 1/3 of an inning. J.R. Robinson came into the game in relief of Fuller and picked up his first win of the season with 2.1 innings of work, giving up just one run on three hits.

The Renegades jumped out to an early two-run lead in the visiting half of the first thanks to a RBI double by Steve Tinoco and a RBI single off the bat of Schwaner.

After allowing the Muckdogs to bring the score to 2-1, the Renegades struck again plating three more runs in the top of the fifth. The Renegades started the inning off with back-to-back doubles courtesy of Acosta and Brian Bryles. After a sacrifice bunt by All-Star Robby Price and a single by All-Star Phil Wunderlich the Renegades increased their lead to four runs, bringing the score to 5-1.

The Muckdogs answered right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game up at 5-5.

The tie wouldn't last long as the Renegades offense put up a three spot in the eighth. The offense started with Acosta's solo home run and ended with back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to bring the score to 8-5, in favor of the Renegades.

The Muckdogs offense attempted a rally but was held at bay by the Renegades All-Star closer Austin Hubbard. Hubbard picked up his seventh save of the season hurling 1.1 innings of two-hit, shutout baseball, while striking out two.

The Renegades and the New York-Penn League enjoy two league wide days off as the league prepares for the 2010 All-Star Game. The All-Star game will be held in Staten Island at Richmond County Bank Ballpark Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. There are still tickets available for the midsummer classic so contact the Staten Island Yankees box office today at 718.720.9265.
