Remarkable Rough Riders recognized as Ottawa's Greatest Connection

(Toronto, Ontario) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) is pleased to announce the seventh tandem as a part of The Greatest Quarterback/Receiver Connections in CFL History Presented by Making the Connection. Representing the Ottawa Rough Riders, Russ Jackson and Whit Tucker will be unveiled officially in a vignette airing Friday night during Wendy's CFL on TSN Friday Night Football featuring the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers live from Canad Inns Stadium.

The Greatest Quarterback/Receiver Connections in CFL History program allows fans from across Canada to debate and vote online with other armchair coaches at www.cfl.ca/makingtheconnection as to who will reign as the CFL's greatest duo, while learning more about the health risks associated with high cholesterol, and the importance of taking action to manage it. From June 23rd until August 18th, nine nominated tandems will be revealed by vignettes aired during CFL games on Wendy's CFL on TSN Friday Night Football.

Once all nine tandems are unveiled, fans can vote or debate with other armchair coaches as to who is the greatest duo. The winning tandem will be announced during halftime at the 94th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 19, 2006.

"Ottawa and Whit Tucker hold a special place in my heart," says Russ Jackson. "I always knew where to find Whit on the field, to make that important connection."

After Russ Jackson graduated from McMaster University in 1958, he made the Nation's Capital his new home. Spending all 12 of his CFL years in Ottawa, Jackson captured three Grey Cup Championships with the Rough Riders.

Whit Tucker

Whit Tucker, a Western Mustang, was drafted by the Rough Riders, playing with the team from 1962 to 1970. With Jackson, he hoisted Lord Grey's trophy three times and is a revered member of the Ottawa dynasty under the tutelage of Frank Clair.

"Russ was a phenomenal passer and that kind of support was vital to our success as a team," says Whit Tucker. "It's great to be recognized as part of the Making the Connection program, since Russ and I both understand the issues associated with high cholesterol."

Jackson to Tucker: Rough Riders Smooth on the Field

Russ Jackson was named CFL Outstanding Player three times ('63, '66, '69), CFL Outstanding Canadian four times ('59, '63, '66, '69), and has been described as the best Canadian-born player in CFL history. Jackson was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1973.

Whit Tucker earned East all-star recognition in 1966, 1967 (CFL All-Star) and 1968 and was runner-up for the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian in 1968. In 1967, Tucker had four consecutive 100-yard games, amassing 1,171 pass receiving yards that season.

During the eight seasons they shared the field (1962-69), Jackson and Tucker combined for 254 receptions for 5,700 yards and 51 touchdowns.
