Remaining Panel Announced for Bluefish Hot Stove Banquet
(Bridgeport, Conn. - January 22, 2015) - The remaining guest panel has been set for the Bluefish Hot Stove Banquet, which will take place on Tuesday, January 27 at Fairfield Theatre Company - Stage One from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Former Major Leaguer and Boston Red Sox star Trot Nixon will be joined by Bluefish all-time hits leader Luis Lopez, seven-year Bluefish veteran Luis Rodriguez, and University of Bridgeport Head Baseball Coach Joe Tonelli.
In addition, the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and Bridgeport Bluefish will present the 2014 Atlantic League Executive of the Year Award to Tonya Shepard, who will be in attendance to accept the award on behalf of Ken Shepard.
After seven successful seasons in the Park City, Luis Lopez is now among the all-time Bluefish batting leaders, pacing the franchise in hits, doubles, RBI, at-bats, walks, and games played. The former Major Leaguer spent two seasons in the big leagues, his first coming in 2001 with the Toronto Blue Jays, then with the Montreal Expos in 2004. Lopez began his professional career in 1995, which has encompassed 21 seasons.
At the beginning of the 2013 season, Luis Rodriguez participated in the World Baseball Classic as part of the coaching staff for Team Venezuela. Along with manager Luis Sojo, he helped coach the likes of Miguel Cabrera, Pablo Sandoval, and Elvis Andrus. Known as "The Machete" for his penchant for cutting down runners on the basepaths with a cannon of an arm, has extensive professional experience as a backstop, including eight stints at the Triple-A level with the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Cardinals and Tigers organizations.
In 2015, Joe Tonelli enters his third season as the University of Bridgeport's head baseball coach. Tonelli, who joined on the UB baseball staff in the Fall of 2009 and also serves as the University's Director of the Wheeler Recreation Center, took over from John Anquillare who led program for the nine previous seasons. In his first two seasons as the Purple Knights head coach, he has led the Purple Knights to a spot in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.
Trot Nixon and the remaining guest panel will be involved in an interactive and candid panel discussion. Following the discussion, guests will be able to participate in a Q&A session with the panel members.
Individual tickets for the event may be purchased at $50 (Bluefish season ticket holders $35). This includes an invitation to the event along with ballpark fare food and beverages.
