Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, WA - OL Reign announced today that it has extended the contract of forward Ally Watt through the 2023 NWSL season. Per league and club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Watt joined OL Reign in December 2020 in a trade with the North Carolina Courage. Since her arrival in the Pacific Northwest, the forward has been recovering from the ACL tear that ended her rookie season with the Courage just 13 minutes into her debut at the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. Watt recently underwent an additional medical procedure related to the original injury to her ACL. Watt remains on OL Reign's season-ending injury list, but is eligible to be added to the club's roster later this season.
"I'm thrilled for re-signing and extending my time here with OL Reign. This team has showed me nothing but love and support during my time of injury and this motivates me every day during my rehab," said forward Ally Watt. "I'm thankful to be part of this organization and excited for the future of this club, I hope everyone is ready for it. I love this team, they're my family already. I can't wait to finally put on the OL Reign jersey and when this happens it's going to be a party."
Watt was originally selected by North Carolina with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft. Two weeks later, she joined W-League side Melbourne City on loan, joining ranks with future OL Reign teammate Lauren Barnes for the remainder of the Australian season. Watt made five appearances and scored three goals for Melbourne City, helping the club win both the W-League Premiership and Championship before returning to the United States.
"We are happy to be re-signing Ally," said OL Reign head coach Farid Benstiti. "She is working hard to recover, and we look forward to seeing her on the pitch. She has great potential."
