
Reichard named Most Valuable Player

Cody Reichard, who led the NAHL in wins and shutouts, has committed to Miami University for next season.
The North American Hockey League announced today its Most Valuable Player, Forward of the Year, Defenseman of the Year and Goaltender of the Year, along with its All-NAHL Team, for the 2007-08 season.
Fairbanks Ice Dogs goaltender Cody Reichard has been named Most Valuable Player and Goaltender of the Year. Reichard, from Celina, Ohio, posted a 33-15-2 record in the regular season to compliment a 2.05 goals-against average and a.935 save percentage. His 33 wins led the entire NAHL, as did his seven shutouts.
"Cody is what junior hockey is all about," said Ice Dogs coach-GM Rob Proffitt. "He works harder than anyone I've ever coached. I wouldn't trade him for any player in any league in North America."
Behind the 21-year-old Reichard, who has committed to Miami University (CCHA) for next season, the Ice Dogs also advanced to the South Division finals of the Robertson Cup Playoffs.
North Iowa Outlaws forward Shea Walters has been named Forward of the Year. Walters, from Hibbing, Minn., finished third in NAHL regular-season scoring with 84 points (24 goals). His 60 assists led the league. The 19-year-old Walters has committed to Bemidji State University (CHA) for next season.
Topeka RoadRunners defenseman Aaron Gens has been named Defenseman of the Year. Gens, from Baudette, Minn., led all NAHL defenseman in regular-season scoring this season with 58 points (12 goals) in 53 games. The 21-year-old also led the league with a plus-41 rating. Gens will attend the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (CCHA) next season.
