Reeder Returns To Land Of Enchantment
August 7, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico Scorpions head coach Ray Edwards signed Konrad Reeder for the 2007-08 season at a press conference today. In front of local media and excited fans, Reeder inked his deal at Graphic Connection Sportswear in Albuquerque.
Reeder becomes the fifth returning player to come to terms with the Scorpions this season. The Vanderhoof, B.C. native, played 45 regular season games, scoring 39 points (18G, 21A). Despite losing six weeks to a hand injury, he finished 13th among Central Hockey League rookies in points and assists and 12th in goals.
"Konrad had an exceptional rookie year for our team," said Edwards. "If not for his injury, he would have been a top five scorer among rookies and we look forward to what he will bring to the ice this season."
In the playoffs, Reeder had one of the best performances in Scorpions and CHL history. He was second among all playoff performers with 28 points, including 11 goals and 17 assists. Reeder trailed only playoff MVP Greg Pankewicz of the Colorado Eagles in the points race and Pankewicz played in seven more games than Reeder.
Reeder became a fan favorite for more than his play on the ice. Whenever he was named a star of the game, the 5'9", 175-pounder posed in the "back bender" and slid down the ice. He famously made the front page of an Arizona newspaper with his keep quiet pose directed at the Sundogs bench. In game seven versus Arizona, he helped the Scorpions keep the Sundogs quiet with an assist in the victory.
"I am excited to return to the Scorpions this season," said Reeder. "I enjoyed my time here last season and can't wait to get back in the ice at the Star Center and try to win a championship."
