RedBlacks Add Two Players in 2024 CFL Global Draft

OTTAWA - The Ottawa REDBLACKS selected Vanderbilt punter Matthew Hayball with the second overall selection in the 2024 CFL Global Draft on Tuesday.

With their second-round selection, 11th overall, the REDBLACKS chose linebacker Heston Lameta, out of Northern Arizona.

"We are proud to select both Matt and Heston," said REDBLACKS General Manager Shawn Burke. "We look forward to seeing them contribute to our strong tradition of global talent."

Hayball, 27, is a native of West Adelaide, Australia. He's spent the last two campaigns with Vanderbilt, and last season, averaged 47.6 yards per punt through 12 games. He signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, yesterday.

Lameta, 25, hails from Pago Pago, American Samoa, and started all 11 games for Northern Arizona in 2023. The 6'1 230lbs linebacker racked up 56 total tackles, 16 solo tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a forced fumble, including a career-high 13 tackles against Portland State.

A busy day for the REDBLACKS continues later this evening as the team will kick off the 2024 CFL Draft with the second-overall selection. The draft begins at 8 PM.
