Red Wings fall to Pilots in Road Opener

The Geneva Red Wings lost to the Newark Pilots on Friday night by a score of 8-2. Newark quickly got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when second baseman Jordan swiss grounded a sharply hit ball through the right side of the infield scoring a pair of Pilot runs. The Pilots continued there hot hitting into the second, as they tacked on two more runs off of Geneva starting pitcher Joe Polanski before the Red Wings answered in the fourth with an RBI double by Max Goione.

Geneva would add add its second run in the top half of the third making it 5-2, but Newark starting pitcher Ryan Wesson dealt a strong seven innings and shut down the Red Wing offense thereafter. The score remained the same until the seventh when the Pilots blew things open with an RBI single by Acy Owen, which was followed by an RBI triple by lead-off man Chris Sharpe. The Pilots would extend there lead to 8-2 before things were all said and done.

Geneva fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss on Friday night, but will return home to the friendly confines of McDonough Park on Saturday night when the play host to the Pilots in the second of back to back games scheduled for this weekend.

Game time is set for 7:05 as the Red Wings will try to even up the season series with Newark before hitting the road for there next two appearances in Elmira and Utica on Sunday and Monday.
