Red Card Appeal for Chivas USA's Pelletieri Denied by Independent Review Panel
March 27, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (March 20, 2014) - This week Chivas USA and MLS filed an appeal for review of the red card issued to Chivas USA midfielder AgustÃ-n Pelletieri in the 13th minute of the March 16 game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (VIDEO). The referee ruled that Pelletieri committed serious foul play.
An independent panel consisting of one representative from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association, and Professional Referees Organization (PRO) was not unanimous that the referee incorrectly identified the offense or that the sanction applied was incorrect.
As a result, the appeal will not be upheld, and Pelletieri's automatic one-game suspension will stand.
