Danville Dans News Release

DANVILLE, IL - The Danville Dans set a club record with 12 former Dans selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, including three chosen in the first ten rounds.

Leading off the Dans in the draft was LSU's Mason Katz, an infield senior. He was selected in the 4th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. Other top picks include 2011 Dan Nick Rumbelow, a junior RHP also from LSU, going to the New York Yankees in the 7th; and LHP Chad Girodo, a Mississippi State senior picked by Toronto Blue Jays in the 9th round. Girodo and Katz were on the 2010 Dans.

Another 2010 Dan - catcher Austin Green, a senior from University of San Diego, who was also in Danville in 2009 - was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th Round. The 2010 Dans played for the Prospect League Championship, falling in their second game of the day 7-6 in extra innings. They finished with a record of 34-23.

A total of six Dans from the 2011 roster were selected. In addition to Rumbelow, others included:

- Evan Mitchell, a Mississippi State junior RHP, selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 13th .

- San Diego RHP Michael Wagner, a junior picked by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th.

- Michael Swanner, a junior RHP from Pepperdine, went to the Atlanta Braves in the 16th.

- St. Leo junior Daniel Torres, catcher, was a 20th round choice of the Seattle Mariners

- Outfielder Charlie White, from Maryland, was picked in the 29th round by the Yankees.

One Dan from last year's roster - San Diego's LHP Max Homick -- was selected in the 32nd round by the Baltimore Orioles. And two Dans from the 2009 team were drafted. Bret Huber, a senior RHP from Ole Miss, was picked by Detroit in the 31st. And Virginia Commonwealth senior Cody Yount, a first baseman, was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 37th.

"We're very excited to see so many Dans picked in the 2013 MLB draft," said Dans managing partner Jeanie Cooke. "This draft is a continuation of the proud heritage of player development with the Dans."

Once signed, these players join around 200 minor leaguers and 21 major leaguers, past and present, who are Dans alumni.
