Tupelo FireAnts News Release
TUPELO, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce the signing of wide receiver David Mooneyham.
Mooneyham, a native of Amory, Mississippi, is no stranger to the Bobby Hall school of football. Mooneyham played for Coach Hall at Amory High School, where he was a member of the 1995 and 1998 Mississippi 3A State Football Championship teams.
While in high school, Mooneyham was a versatile player, serving as a punter, kicker, and wide receiver. He was named to the 1998 Clarion Ledger All-State Football First Team as a punter during his senior season. After high school, Mooneyham attended Mississippi State University before transferring to the University of North Alabama in 2002.
Mooneyham led all receivers this past season at UNA, hauling in 51 passes for 779 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games played. The Lions finished the 2003 football season with an 11-0 regular season record and the 2003 Gulf South Conference Championship.
"Playing football for David is comparable to Elvis singing," FireAnts Head Coach Bobby Hall said. "It just comes easy for him."
The FireAnts have signed 11 players to date, including Joe Gunn, Pig Prather, Patrick Garth, Rico McDonald, Bobby Hill, Chris Rainey, Eric Bingham, Will Hall, Darryl Carter, Reggie Smith, and now David Mooneyham to the 2004 lineup.
