Farago was sharp in between the pipes and the FC Edmonton back-line held strong for the 90 minutes as the Eddies earned a point with a strong defensive performance in Brooklyn. The draw comes in FC Edmonton's first of four road matches in its final five games to end the season as they now travel to Florida for a midweek match with Jacksonville Armada FC on Wednesday.
"From start to finish the attitude was terrific towards the job of work that needed to be done," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said post-match. "Overall defensively there were no failures from front to back and the players gave everything for the cause.
"[Tyson Farago] made the saves he had to make and was steady and consistent. Overall I'm happy with the back four, as it was a very sound defensive performance. We'll take the result but we now have to get ready for Wednesday, which will more difficult with the humid conditions."
The Eddies deployed striker Jake Keegan and attacker Sainey Nyassi up front with the likes of Tomi Ameobi out due to injury and Daryl Fordyce on the bench. Midfielder Nico Di Biase slotted into the centre of midfield with Mauro Eustaquio, while the defensive line of Pedro Galvao, Albert Watson, Abdoulaye Diakite and Nik Ledgerwood started in front of Tyson Farago in goal.
Farago had to be sharp early to deny the Cosmos their opener in the eighth minute. After Di Biase conceded the free-kick just outside the FC Edmonton box, Ledesma stepped up and struck his shot well before the Winnipeg, MB product made a quick diving save to keep the score level.
The Eddies goalkeeper continued to be the busiest player on the pitch, turning away a dangerous chance for Mkosana by charging out and beating the forward to the ball. The Eddies defence would hold on for the first 45 minutes and take the 0-0 scoreline into the break.
Into the second half, the Eddies had their best offensive chance in the 61st minute when left-back Galvao made a charging solo run into the box before cutting back to the trailing Keegan. But the clearance came at the last moment by centre-back Dejan Jakovic, who cleared the ball for a corner and denied FC Edmonton their best look at goal.
Farago had been sharp all night for FC Edmonton, but the goalkeeper's best contribution came in the 68th minute when he robbed Ryan Richter's point-blank chance by parrying the ball past the far post.
The whistle blew for full-time with both sides sharing the spoils with a point in a scoreless draw. FC Edmonton have a quick turnaround to Wednesday when they visit the Armada on Oct. 18 before returning home to face Miami FC on Girls in Soccer Night II at Clarke Stadium on Saturday, October 21.
