Rebellion Fall to Bandits in Extra Innings

Published on August 1, 2016 under National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release

Washington, PA- Fans at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, PA, today were treated with some Sunday afternoon softball between the Pennsylvania Rebellion and the Chicago Bandits. It took extra innings, but the Bandits prevailed by a final score of 5-4.

The scoring started in the 3rd inning when the Bandits struck on a sacrifice fly from Designated Player Brittany Cervantes, and it was 1-0 Chicago.

The Rebellion came back right away in the bottom of the 3rd with a pair of runs. It was a two-run single off the bat of Designated Player Stacey Porter that did the damage and made it 2-1 Rebellion.

Pennsylvania would add a run to the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Shortstop Whitney Arion came through with a two-out RBI single, and it was 3-1 Rebellion.

The lead, however, would not last. The Bandits battled and pushed across two runs in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game. The second sac fly of the game for Cervantes scored a run as well as an RBI double from Second Baseman Amanda Kamekona and it was knotted at 3-3.

The Rebellion regained the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning when rookie Right Fielder Lexie Elkins laced a two-out single into left field that scored Olivia Watkins and gave PA a 4-3 advantage.

The Bandits waited until the 7th inning, but it was Amanda Kamekona who came up clutch. Her sacrifice fly, and 2nd RBI of the game, evened things up at 4 and forced extra softball.

It was in the 9th inning when the Bandits broke through. An RBI single by Right Fielder Danielle Zymkowitz scored Brittany Cervantes and gave Chicago their first lead of the game at 5-4. For that go-ahead hit, Zymkowitz is lauded with the honor of POWERHANDZ Player of the Game.

That one run in the 9th would be enough as the Rebellion bats were silenced in the last three innings by the Chicago Relief Pitcher Shelby Turnier. Five of the nine outs she recorded were via the strikeout, including the final out of the game, a K of the Rebellion Shortstop Whitney Arion.

The Rebellion (14-27) will enjoy a few days off before opening their final home series of the season on Friday, a three game set against the Dallas Charge. For the Bandits (20-22), they will head home and begin a series against the NPF-leading USSSA Pride. All games can be seen live on NPFTV on profastpitch.com . BOX SCORE
