Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Thursday, February 25, 2010) - U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley today named Real Salt Lake FW Robbie Findley to the 20-man roster that will head to Amsterdam for the USA's friendly next Wednesday, March 3 against the Netherlands. Findley, one of only three MLS-based players that will make the trip to Holland, will hope to suit up for the United States in the match at Amsterdam Arena, slated for a 12:30 p.m. MT kick-off. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Galavision, and fans can also follow the game live via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and at www.twitter.com/ussoccer.
The U.S. squad - which includes 16 European-based members, three domestic-based players and one player based in Mexico - will begin gathering this Sunday, Feb. 28 in Amsterdam and will have two days of training before facing the Netherlands. Following the match against the Dutch, Findley is expected to rejoin Real Salt Lake around the start of the defending MLS Cup Champion's two-week preseason camp in Charleston, S.C. from March 5-21.
"This is a great opportunity for us to bring many of our European-based players together as we continue to finalize our plans for the World Cup roster," Bradley said. "This is the final match before we bring the team together for the World Cup, so to have a match against one of the top teams in the world like the Netherlands is a big benefit and a good challenge for our group. They are expecting a large crowd to turn out for the game, and we are looking forward to an exciting atmosphere in Amsterdam."
Findley earned his third "cap" for the U.S. Senior side last night, starting and logging 68 minutes in a 2-1 victory over El Salvador at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. That contest marked Findley's second extended appearance in a match for Bradley across the last month, as the Arizona native received his first start for the squad and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-3 defeat to Honduras at The Home Depot Center on Jan. 23.
The recently-concluded February training camp was Findley's third such stint with the U.S. Men's National Team since last September, when he trained under Bradley in advance of the team's World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador and at Trinidad & Tobago. The 24-year-old Findley's first "cap" with the USA was a brief one back on Oct. 17, 2007, when he entered a 1-0 victory at Switzerland in the 90' minute in place of Clint Dempsey.
The U.S. will be facing the Netherlands for the fourth time in history next Wednesday, the hosts holding a 3-0-0 record. The teams last met Feb. 18, 2004, at the same venue, with Holland walking out 1-0 winners. The U.S. has previously met the Netherlands in a World Cup year, falling 2-0 on May 29, 2002, in Foxborough in the final Send-Off match before the USA went on the historic run to the quarterfinals of Korea/Japan.
