Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs have signed midfielder Lionel Djiro ahead of the team's match against Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday, September 24.
Born in the Ivory Coast, the 19-year-old midfielder previously plied his trade in the United Arab Emirates, playing in 30 games for second tier side Elite Falcon FC. The left-footed Ivorian profiles as a quick, technical winger and will look to help Real Monarchs on the offensive side of the ball. Djiro may be able to make an immediate impact if he is available for the upcoming match.
Real Monarchs have been eliminated from MLS NEXT Pro playoff contention but will look to end the season on a high note at Providence Park where they will face Timbers2, another side that has been denied a playoff berth. The Monarchs have won the previous three meetings, outscoring the Portland side 12-5. Kickoff for the final match of the season is at 3:00pm MT with the match being streamed on MLS Season Pass through AppleTV.
