Real Monarchs SLC Set for First Visit to Las Vegas to Face Lights FC
May 18, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (7-1-1, 22 points, 1 West) are set for the second installment of the I-15/Saints-and-Sinners rivalry against Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, May 19. Kickoff from Cashman Field is set for 9:00 p.m. MT as Head Coach Mark Briggs looks to cement his team's place atop the United Soccer League standings.
The Monarchs return to the road after a four-game home stretch that saw the club claim 10 of 12 possible points to open its new home at Zions Bank Stadium. The four-game stretch included a match against Lights FC in the first-ever match between the two sides when the teams played to a scoreless draw in the first match in Herriman.
Most recently, the Monarchs played to a 1-0 victory over Fresno FC last Saturday in a game that saw MF Maikel Chang notch the winner after just 8 minutes while professional debutant GK Jake Leeker earned the shutout in goal. Last Wednesday the Monarchs claimed a convincing 4-1 victory over 2017 USL Cup Runner-Up Swope Park Rangers at Zions Bank Stadium to help usher in Saturday's shutout victory over the Foxes.

Real Monarchs and Las Vegas met on one previous occasion in the first match at Zions Bank Stadium where the teams battled to a scoreless draw. Despite playing up a man for 72 minutes after Las Vegas saw red in the early stages, the Monarchs weren't able to capitalize to claim three points after coming close on several occasions.
Providing a potential highlight to the match against Las Vegas would be another milestone reached by FW Chandler Hoffman as he continues his quest to reach 50 regular-season goals in the USL. Hoffman currently sits at 49 regular-season goals all-time, needing one more strike to become the third player in the league's modern era to reach the 50-goal mark behind Richmond Kickers striker Dane Kelly and Charlotte Independence midfielder Jorge Herrera. Kelly currently holds the top spot on the all-time scoring charts, having scored 66 goals in his career, leaving Hoffman with 17 goals to reach the summit of the scoring charts.
