Real Monarchs Set to Face LAFC2 for First Time in Team History

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs (3-5-0, 9 points, 10th in West) return home to Zions Bank Stadium where they will meet LAFC 2 (0-4-3, 3 points, 14th in West) on Sunday, May 21, at 4:00 p.m. MT
Real Monarchs have struggled against opposition while playing at home during the 2023 campaign posting a current home record of 1-3-0. The Monarchs largest losses have come at home this season, including a 0-4 loss against Western Conference rivals Sporting Kansas City II.
Despite struggling to claim points at home, the Monarchs had their best performance of the 2023 season at Zions Bank Stadium with an impressive 5-1 victory against Portland Timbers 2 two weeks prior. Behind newly acquired loanee Jenthe Mertens and former RSL Homegrown Julian Vazquez, Real Monarchs will look to improve upon their performance in the Beehive State and secure their first ever win against LAFC 2.

Head-to-Head: For the first time in Real Monarchs history the team will face Los Angeles FC 2. The Los Angeles side was founded to compete exclusively in MLS NEXT Pro and the 2023 campaign is the team's inaugural season. Previously LAFC 2's parent team Los Angeles FC had been affiliated with USL Championship sides Orange County SC and Las Vegas Lights both of whom acted as respective development programs for LAFC. Both Orange County and Las Vegas competed in the USL Championship where they met the Monarchs multiple times. In the USL Championship Real Monarchs held a commanding record of 2-1-2 against the lights, while against Orange County SC the Monarchs had a 5-6-1 all-time record.
