Reading Express Announces 1st Open Try-Out

September 8, 2009 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Reading Express News Release

The 2009 AIFA National Champion Reading Express is pleased to announce that they have again come to terms with Grand Slam Sports Complex as the "Official" practice facility of the Reading Express for the 2010 Season. Grand Slam will provide The Express with a full season of practice slots for both the regular season and play-offs (hopefully needed). Last seasons success can not be duplicated unless we continue to search to find the best talent out there. Last years Championship roster will have some retirements as well as some players who will not be back due to family and work obligations. These camps are your chance to become a part of a Winning Tradition here in Reading.

The Reading Express will be holding it's first Open Try-Out on Saturday October 17, 2009 at Grand Slam. Registration will begin at 11:45 am for Kickers and 12 noon for remaining players. Try-Outs will start at 1pm and run until 4pm. We ask that any Kickers interested in trying out please register at 11:45pm, we will look at kickers between 12 noon and 1pm for short range kicks, extra points, kick offs and onsides kicks.

What to expect between 1pm and 4pm? We will first stretch and loosen up. We will then divide into four groups for individual testing. The four tested areas will be: 40 yard dash (2 attempts) Pro Shuttle (2 attempts) Vertical Jump (2 attempts) 225 Bench Press (1 time max reps). After testing is complete we will break up into individual position groups to evaluate your position skills. We will have 1 on 1 passing and blocking session as well as 5 on 5 and 8 on 8 sessions.

What you need to know! You need to wear proper work out attire (Look Professional and be Ready to Work-Out). There are rest rooms at GSSC, but no locker rooms. NO SPIKES of any kind on the Grand Slam surface. It is a short carpet like turf. A good pair of sneakers or turf shoes will do just fine. We will have our medical staff from CATC on hand for any taping or medical needs. You will be signing a medical waiver at registration. There will be a $50 cost for the main try-out. Kickers will have a $40 charge for their 12 noon-1pm work-out. Credit Cards and Cash will be the only acceptable form of payment...NO CHECKS. The fee you pay also cover's you for the remaining Express open try-outs in November and January, for a chance at improvement.
