Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Andrew Aplin homered and drove in four RBI to help lead the JetHawks to a 12-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at The Hangar.
Aplin extended his league-leading RBI total to 42. He's now had five games with at least four RBI this season.
Aplin's homer came in the first inning to put Lancaster ahead. Joe Sclafani reached with a one-out single and Aplin sent a line drive over the wall in right-centerfield. It was fifth home run of the season.
Alex Yarbrough had hit a solo shot off JetHawks starter Chris Devenski in the top of the first.
Devenski (4-2) allowed four runs over five innings to pick up the win. He struck out six and walked two.
Lancaster added three more runs in the second. Sclafani singled again and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Preston Tucker, who extended his hitting streak to eight games in the first inning, hit a groundball to first base with two outs that was mishandled by Michael Snyder allowing two runs to score.
Inland Empire scored their final runs of the game in the fourth and fifth innings. Snyder doubled in Zach Borenstein in the fourth and Andy Workman and Ryan Jones hit back-to-back doubles to start the fifth. Jones later scored on a Brian Hernandez ground ball.
Lancaster responded with three runs of its own in the fifth inning. Sclafani picked up an RBI with a bases loaded walk and Aplin followed with a single to drive in two.
Tucker hit his seventh home run of the season off reliever Alex Burkard to start the eighth inning for the JetHawks final run.
Piggy-back starter Brady Rodgers cruised through his four innings of work. The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out three without issuing a walk. He didn't allow a run and picked up his first save of the season.
Aplin wasn't the only JetHawk who finished with an impressive line. Sclafani was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Heineman finished 2-for-2 with three walks and two RBI. Brandon Meredith had his first three-hit game of the season, finishing 3-for-4 with a double.
With the win, the JetHawks (27-20) are now 1.5 games ahead of Inland Empire (25-21) in the South Division standings. Their series continues on Saturday at 7:00 pm. David Rollins (3-3, 4.47) will start against Danny Reynolds (4-4, 6.07).
The first 1,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a JetHawks camouflage jersey presented by LoanMart.
