
RazorSharks take down the Slam

(Rochester, NY)...In front of 5,632 fans, their largest crowd of the year, the Rochester RazorSharks (13-2) defeated the Jacksonville Slam (7-7) 123-108, extending their record home win-streak at the Blue Cross Arena to 44 games. Sammy Monroe led the RazorSharks in scoring for the 5th time this season with 24 points and pulled in 9 rebounds. Marlin Johnson finished with a personal-best 18 points on 9 of 10 shooting from the field and a team-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Jacksonville's Xavier Morton led the Slam with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Jacksonville started off the 1st quarter on fire rolling off an 11-0 run in the first 3:30 of play. However, just a few minutes later, Rochester got back in the game with a 12-4 run, cutting the lead to 3, 15-12. The RazorSharks closed out the opening quarter on a 7-2 run pulling within 1 point of Jacksonville's 28-27 1st quarter lead.
Keith Friel started off the 2nd quarter with a 4-point play, after being fouled while making a 3-pointer to give Rochester their first lead of the game, 31-28. Friel finished with 19 points, shooting 6 of 13 from the field with 3 3-pointers. The Slam recaptured the lead less than a minute later, 32-31, but 5 minutes later, the RazorSharks capped off a 15-4 run to take a 12 point lead, 48-36. With 2 minutes left in the 1st half, Jacksonville put together a 14-3 run pulling within 1, 51-50. Rochester finished the quarter with a 55-52 lead. Monroe led the half with 15 points aided by 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
With 4:45 left in the 3rd quarter, the Slam regained the lead for the first time since 10:47 remaining in the 1st half, 78-77. Rochester took back the lead for the final lead change, 84-82 with 2:52 remaining and finished the quarter ripping off a 13-1 run and a 95-83 lead. Marlin Johnson's 10 3rd quarter points led the charge building the 12-point lead.
With 38 seconds remaining in the game, the RazorSharks reached their largest lead, 121-99, off a rebound and dunk by Sammy Monroe. Rochester set a new team-high with 109 field goal attempts, breaking the previous record of 104 set last Thursday, February, 21st vs. the Maryland Nighthawks.
Both teams now travel to Chicago for the Premier Basketball League Triple "S" Super Scouting Showcase at the famed Attack Center. The RazorSharks will play two games, Tuesday, March 4th at 7:15pm (CST) vs. the Chicago Throwbacks and Wednesday, March 5th at 12:45pm (CST) vs. the Dallas Defenders. The Slam faces the Wilmington Sea Dawgs tomorrow, Monday, March 3rd at 7:15pm (CST) and close out the showcase on Wednesday, March 5th at 3:30pm (CST) vs. the Reading Railers.
