
RazorSharks pull out a close one in fourth quarter

(North Bethesda, MD)...The Rochester RazorSharks (8-1) extended their winning streak to 7 games, with a 108-97 victory against the Maryland Nighthawks (2-7). This was a battle in the paint all day, with both teams combining for 98 free throw attempts. Rochester shot 33 of 57 and Maryland shot 31 of 41 from the line. James Reaves led the RazorSharks with 21 points, shooting 11 of 14 free throws, and finished with 9 rebounds. Maryland was led by Andrew Washington with 21 points, shooting 9 of 13 from the free throw line.
Rochester started the game hot, with an 11-3 run in the first 3:30, but the Nighthawks came right back with a 22-5 run. With 2:37 remaining in the 1st, Maryland led 25-16. Maryland closed out the 1st quarter with a 31-27 advantage, led by Anton Jenifer's 11 points, shooting 3 for 3 from the field and 5 for 5 from the line.
The 2nd quarter started with a Maryland 12-4 run in the opening 3 minutes, which pushed the Nighthawks largest lead to 12 points, 43-31. Rochester closed within 4 points, 50-46, with just under 4 minutes to play in the half, but Maryland finished the 1st half with a 56-51 lead. Maryland's Anton Jenifer's 11 points from the 1st quarter led all scorers for the half.
The 3rd quarter was highly contested with the RazorSharks finally regaining the lead with 3:19 left in the quarter. It was the first time Rochester led since seven minutes into the 1st, when Derik Hollyfield hit a 3-pointer. Rochester finished off the quarter with an 80-77 lead.
The RazorSharks held the lead for most of the 4th quarter until Maryland recaptured the lead, 93-92, with 5:30 remaining in the game. However, the Nighthawks lead didn't last long, as Rochester took the lead for good, 94-93, less than 30 seconds later. The RazorSharks closed out the final five minutes on a 14-4 run, as they eventually pulled out the 11 point victory. Sammy Monroe finished the game with 15 points. Demond Stewart had 10 points and led both teams with 12 rebounds.
Rochester continues their road trip versus the Wilmington Sea Dawgs (7-3), Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00pm. The RazorSharks are returning to the site of their only loss this season, an 83-81 Wilmington victory. This will be the 2nd of three games played between the two teams in a matter of 2 weeks with the third game coming on the RazorSharks next home game, February 16th at 2:05pm.
This game on February 16th will be in honor of area servicemen/women including: military, police, firefighters, and rescue 1st responders. These men and women will receive $2 off any ticket at the box office by showing their ID or badge. Also, the first 1,000 fans will receive a RazorSharks key chain.
