Rochester RazorSharks News Release

(Wilmington, NC)...The Rochester RazorSharks (1-1) lost a tight, sloppy game to the Wilmington Sea Dawgs (2-0) 83-81. The RazorSharks plagued by several untimely turnovers led to the Sea Dawgs come from behind after trailing the entire game until 39 seconds left in the 4th quarter.

The RazorSharks started where they left off from Friday night's game with a 10-4 run in the first 4:00 minutes of play. The Sea Dawgs were able to make it tight the rest of the quarter, pushing the score to a 20-19 RazorSharks lead.

Once again in the first 4:00 minutes, the RazorSharks came out hot to start the 2nd quarter with a 13-3 run. The rest of the way was back and forth between the two teams, but the RazorSharks went into the half with a 40-34 lead. Vidal Massiah led the team in the 1st half with 7 points.

The 3rd quarter was close, but in the last minute of play, the RazorSharks had two careless plays that led to two steals by the Sea Dawgs to pull them within 1 and a score of 57-56 RazorSharks.

The end of the 3rd quarter marked the beginning of a poor 4th quarter. The RazorSharks had 14 turnovers in the 4th quarter alone totaling 29 for the game and 55 between the two teams.

With 7.9 seconds remaining, James Reaves was fouled after an inbound pass from Demond Stewart and made the first of two. After Reaves missed the second foul shot, Stewart got the rebound and then called a timeout with 4.7 seconds remaining. With an overthrown inbound pass from Jerice Crouch from the end line, Jermaine Williams of the Sea Dawgs made the steal and the game clinching layup with 1.6 seconds remaining. Reaves then missed a last second shot after an inbound pass from mid-court.

The RazorSharks were led by Jacksonville, NC native, Sammy Monroe with 15 points in front of family and friends who traveled an hour south to see him play. Keith Friel added 14 points and James Reaves led the team with 10 rebounds.

Both teams went into today's game winning their season openers. Sea Dawgs defeated Maryland Saturday night 92-89. The RazorSharks finished the road trip 1-1 and head home tomorrow to prepare for their Home Opening Weekend at the Blue Cross Arena January 12 vs. Reading Railers at 2:05pm and an early season rematch with the Jacksonville Jam, January 13 at 1:05pm.
