
RazorSharks knock out Maryland early in impressive win

(Rochester, NY)...The Rochester RazorSharks (11-1) continued their winning ways this year with a 19-point victory over the visiting Maryland Nighthawks (3-9), 125-106. The RazorSharks were led by Keith Friel with 22 points, 15 coming in the 2nd half. The win continued Rochester's win streak at home to 43 games and 10 straight overall this year. This victory pushed the RazorSharks record to 9-0 all-time against the Nighthawks, which dates back to November 13, 2005, a 120-102 RazorSharks win. This was only the 2nd time this year Rochester allowed 100 points in a game as the league's top scoring defense, averaging 92 points per game. Maryland was led by Randy Gill's 21 points.
After being down 6-0 early to start the 1st, Maryland went on an 11-0 run with 6:30 minutes left in the quarter. Just when Rochester thought it was going to be another tough night with the Nighthawks, they turned up the defensive pressure, forcing 10 turnovers in the 1st. The RazorSharks closed out the quarter on an impressive 18-0 run which spilled over into the 2nd quarter, extending to 20 straight points from the home team. Rochester led 30-13 at the end of one.
The 2nd quarter was all Rochester as they extended their lead to 34 points with 58 seconds left in the half, and led 68-34. The RazorSharks finished off the 2nd quarter with an impressive 40 points and led at the half 70-39. Rochester was led by at the break by Sammy Monroe and James Reaves with 14 points each, finishing with 21 and 15 points, respectively.
The RazorSharks opened up the 3rd quarter with a 3-pointer by Sammy Monroe pushing their lead back up to 34, but the Nighthawks came back with a 12-0 run, closing the gap to 22 points. Maryland got to within 17 points of the lead with 2:23 remaining with the score 89-72, but they couldn't pull off the slight comeback. The 3rd quarter finished with the RazorSharks leading 94-77. The final quarter was back and forth as Rochester finished off the 19-point victory.
The RazorSharks go on the road for two again playing the Reading Railers (4-7) this Saturday, February 23rd at 1:00pm and then travel back down to Maryland to take on the Nighthawks on Sunday, February 24th at 4:00pm.
