RazorSharks Basketball Star To Toss Up a Different Ball

April 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

(Rochester, New York) - Rochester RazorSharks forward Demond Stewart will throw out the first pitch at the Rochester Red Wings second home game of the season on Sunday, April 9 at 1:35 p.m. against the Syracuse Sky Chiefs. A native of Rochester, Stewart led the RazorSharks in playoff scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game in leading Rochester to the American Basketball Association championship in their inaugural season.

"It's quite an honor to throw out the first pitch for my hometown baseball team", said Stewart, a graduate of Greece Olympia High School and Niagara University. "I'm sure it's easier for me to sink a three-pointer than it will be to throw to home plate in front of a full house at Frontier Field."

The 6'4" forward helped the RazorSharks to an overall 30-4 record in their first season in the ABA. Stewart was named the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) Player of the Year in 2001 in his senior season at Niagara University, and has played professionally in Belgium, The Netherlands and Latvia before joining the RazorSharks for the 2005-2006 season.

The Rochester Red Wings are the Triple AAA minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
