
RazorSharks Awarded Several 2008 Season Honors

(Rochester, NY)...Yesterday, the Premier Basketball League announced the 2008 season and postseason awards. Rochester RazorSharks came away with two of the three postseason awards, the 2008 Playoff MVP and 2008 Coach of the Year. The RazorSharks top three leading scorers were named to the All-League teams.
"This has been a tremendous inaugural season with an extremely high level of play," stated PBL President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas E. Doyle. "Those receiving these honors have demonstrated tremendous ability on the court and the PBL is proud to offer special recognition to these talented players."
Following the 2008 PBL Championship game, Rochester RazorSharks Guard, Keith Friel, was named the PBL Playoff Most Valuable Player after his career-high 35-point night as the RazorSharks defeated the Arkansas Impact, 142-112. "Being named the playoff MVP is an unbelievable honor. Playing in front of our home fans and my friends and family made it really special," said Friel.
Friel was also named to the 2008 PBL All-league 2nd team following the season in which he led the RazorSharks in scoring with 16.2 points. "As a player, I strive to do the best every time I step on the floor, but the team championship is always the number one goal."
In his 3rd season as the RazorSharks Head Coach, Rod Baker, led the team to a PBL-best18-2 record and an overall record of 20-2, capped off with the Inaugural PBL Championship.
"It's a nice honor to be named Coach of the Year. This league is about the players and having the best group of 12 made it easier," stated Coach Baker.
RazorSharks Forward, James Reaves, was named to the 2008 PBL All- League 1st team. Reaves' averaged 14.7 points and 8.2 rebounds as the unspoken leader of the RazorSharks.
"It's a privilege and honor to be named to the PBL's All-League 1st team. It's nice to be noticed as one of the top players in the league," said Reaves. "It was a great season for me and I would like to thank the coaches and Razorsharks staff for putting me in the situation to be successful. Lastly, I would like to thank my teammates, who I believe were all capable of making All-League honors. Being around a great group of talented guys made my job so much easier."
Sammy Monroe, RazorSharks Forward, was named to the 2008 PBL All-League 3rd Team. Monroe finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.7 points. Following the 2008 PBL Season, Monroe was signed by the Austin Toros of the NBA D-League for the playoffs. The Toros reached the 3-game championship series vs. the Idaho Stampede, but after winning Game 1, 95-89, they lost the last two games by a combined 8 points.
