Rayz Shine in Houston

October 1, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Corpus Christi, Texas: October 1, 2003 – Six members of the 2003-04 Corpus Christi Rayz will be starting training camp with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League, General Manager/Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced today. The Aeros, who are the AHL affiliate of the Corpus Christi Rayz, begin their training today.

Goaltender Brent Belecki, defenseman Mike Rodrigues and forwards Patrick Leveque, Brad Wingfield, Jonathan St. Louis and Jay Woodcroft have been selected by both the Rayz and the Aeros to begin their training among the elite players of the AHL. Earlier this season, the Rayz announced their affiliation with the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League and the Houston Aeros of the AHL. By partnering with the Wild and Aeros, the Rayz agreed to have certain players on two-way contracts, allowing them to play for the Rayz and Aeros at different points throughout the season. Last season the Aeros won the Calder Cup as the champions of the AHL and are regarded as one of the premier teams in minor league hockey.

Houston training camp will provide these six players with experience against top level competition as well as offer them half a week more of training, as Central Hockey League camps do not open up until Monday, October 6. Belecki has been attending AHL and NHL training camps since he was 18 and knows how valuable they can be. "It's a good opportunity for everyone." said Belecki. St. Louis, who is in his fourth AHL training camp agreed with his netminder adding, "It's a great chance to show them that I can play at that level." While, six of the Rayz start in Houston, the rest of the team is gearing up for Rayz camp as hockey season is only two weeks away. Unfortunately, the Rayz received a literal bad break when defenseman David Lawrence broke his wrist training for the upcoming season. Lawrence will not be ready for action until late October, and will not be able to make it to training camp in Corpus Christi. With the absence of Lawrence, the Rayz camp roster now stands at 23.

The Rayz have also announced that individual game tickets will be available for purchase as of today, October 1. Tickets can be obtained through any Ticketmaster outlet and information and ticket pricing is available by calling the Rayz offices at (361)814-7825. In addition to individual game tickets, season tickets, voucher books and other special packages are being offered for the 2003-04 season.

The Corpus Christi Rayz drop the puck on the 2003-04 Central Hockey League season on October 16, when they host the New Mexico Scorpions. Season tickets and group packages are currently available. For more information, please contact the Rayz office at (361) 814-PUCK or check out the Rayz online at www.ccrayz.com.
