Greeneville Astros News Release
Princeton, WV - The Greeneville Astros and Princeton Rays battled in a pitcher's duel on Sunday afternoon at Hunnicutt Field. The game's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Rays a 1-0 win as they avoided a sweep by the Astros.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, William Argo was hit by a pitch and got on base. After stealing second, Argo scored on an Omar Narvaez line drive RBI-single to left field. With strong pitching, that was the only run the Rays needed.
Each team used four pitchers in the contest. For the Astros, Lance McCullers made his second start and gave up one run on two hits over 4.0 innings. Joe Musgrove followed and gave up just four hits and no runs over 3.1 innings while striking out six. Then, Scott Zuloaga and Jordan Jankowski finished the game with each pitching one-third of an inning with no hits allowed.
Princeton, meanwhile, got six innings from starter Bruedlin Suero. In that time, he gave up each of Greeneville's five hits but allowed no runs and struck out two in earning the win. Jonathan Weaver, Alex Keudell and Nick Sawyer pitched an inning apiece and held the Astros without a hit over the final three innings.
Carlos Correa, Rio Ruiz and Ariel Ovando picked up all five of Greeneville's hits. Ovando had two singles, Ruiz had one and Correa finished two-for-three with a double.
The Astros have a day off on Monday before beginning a final playoff push with a six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Bristol White Sox. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
