Rawhide Solve Moore, Take Series from Blaze

April 18, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

In two starts this season, Andrew Moore had not given up an earned run despite having a 0-1 record. On Sunday afternoon Moore continued to work his brilliance against Visalia, until the Rawhide finally had their awakening.

Matt Jones, Victor Reyes, and Cody Regis hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to start the 6th inning off as the Rawhide erased a 3-0 deficit to win Game 4 of the series 7-3.

The string of doubles was over when Colin Bray came up after Regis, but he hit a clean single that tied the score at 3. The inning was over and so was the day for Moore.

Aaron Brooks (0-1) entered the 7th and was promptly greeted with a single by Dawel Lugo and then a drive into the right-center field gap by Grant Heyman for a double making the score 4-3.

From there, the Rawhide wouldn't look back.

Brooks gave up three more runs in the 8th, but it was all cosmetic from there as the Rawhide won the four-game series 3-1.

Much like the first three games of this series, Bakersfield took an early lead by scoring on a double-steal in the first. After a Kyle Petty walk, Jay Baum stepped into the batters box with two outs as he looked to extend the frame. Starting pitcher Ethan Elias (ND) struck out Baum in the at-bat, but not before Petty raced down to second base on the steal. On the other side Catcher Matt Jones attempted to throw out Petty, but was unable to do so as Brock Hebert (1-3, R, RBI, BB) scored from third simultaneously.

The Blaze scored two more runs in the 5th, but that was the last of their offense on the afternoon.

Drew Jackson was the only Blaze hitter with a multi-hit performance going 3-4 with an RBI in the defeat.

Moore received his second no-decision of the season. The right-hander retired the Rawhide lineup in order in four of the first five innings until he reached the 6th.

Bakersfield heads to Modesto now for a three-game series that concludes the road trip. First pitch at Modesto on Monday night is scheduled for 7:05pm. David Gascon will have the call on TuneIn and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
