VANCOUVER (Wednesday, March 27, 2002) - The Vancouver Ravens will make their first-ever National Lacrosse League post-season appearance, Saturday, March 30th, at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, with The TEAM 1040AM, CNN/SI and Rogers Sportsnet joining the team's website in carrying the quarter-final game against the Knighthawks.
The TEAM 1040AM, www.team1040.ca, www.vancouverravens.com and CNN/SI will go live at 4:30 p.m. Pacific while Rogers Sportsnet will tape delay the game beginning at 8 p.m. Pacific.
"The exposure we've received from each of our broadcast partners has been a big part of our successful debut in the National Lacrosse League and we're pleased to have them with us in our first-ever playoff game in Rochester," said Tom Mayenknecht, Governor & Managing Partner of the Vancouver Ravens Lacrosse Club. "Thanks to this kind of regional, national and international television coverage, we're not only reaching out to potential new fans of the Ravens and the NLL, we're getting the chance to promote Vancouver and British Columbia and that's important to us as a new professional sports franchise."
The TEAM 1040AM, which will also provide the feeds for www.team1040.ca and www.vancouverravens.com, will go live with Molson Ravens Lacrosse presented by Molson Canadian Ice. The broadcast features play-by-play commentary by Terry Murray and colour commentary by Jeff Gombar, a former star goaltender in the NLL and the BC-based Western Lacrosse Association. Lee Powell will anchor the pre-game, halftime and post-game shows.
CNN/SI will broadcast live in a co-production with Molstar Entertainment. It marks the fourth time the Ravens have earned a CNN/SI berth in their first season in the NLL.
Rogers Sportsnet, which has previous commitments to the NCAA Basketball Championships this weekend, will broadcast in the Pacific region beginning at 8 p.m. Pacific.
The Ravens finished their inaugural season in the NLL with an expansion record of 10-6, fourth best overall behind only the Albany Attack (14-2), Rochester Knighthawks (13-3) and Toronto Rock (11-5). The Ravens are seeded fifth going into their first post-season.
Vancouver was third in the NLL in average attendance (10,211), tops in Canadian television ratings and third overall in merchandise sales.
All 16 regular season games were broadcast on The TEAM 1040AM. The Ravens were also featured 10 times on Rogers Sportsnet and three times on CNN/SI.
