Rattlers Lock Up Playoff Berth

(Rochester, NY)... Major League Lacrosse announced today that the Rochester Rattlers have clinched a berth in 2008 NB ZIP⢠MLL Championship Weekend. The Rattlers and Denver Outlaws (8-3) have now qualified for the MLL Championship Weekend, which will take place at Harvard Stadium in Boston on Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 24th.
The semifinal games will be held at noon and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23rd. The two semifinal winners will advance to the NB ZIP MLL Championship Game on Sunday, August 24th. The Championship Game will once again air live on ESPN2 at 1:00 p.m. ESPN2 is also planning on airing one of the semifinal games as well.
Rochester (7-3) defeated the Boston Cannons 26-19 last Saturday to secure its fifth postseason bid in the Rattlers' eight-year history. Rochester advanced to the 2007 MLL Semifinals, but lost to the LA Riptide. The Rattlers can clinch the second conference title in their team history with a win this weekend.
The Rattlers host the Long Island Lizards (5-5) on Friday, August 1st at 7:30 p.m. at PAETEC Park. The contest will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. The game also will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com.
The game is the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams. Rochester won the first contest, 16-10, on May 17th. The Rattlers have won the last three matchups to improve to 6-9 lifetime against the Lizards.
Prior to the contest, the Rattlers will name their team MVP, Unsung Hero and Connors & Ferris Comeback Player of the Year. The first 1,000 fans will receive a John Grant player card, courtesy of Bud Light. The first 500 people will take home a Rattlers' team photo from Downtown Minuteman Press.
Fans can arrive early and enjoy the pregame party with live music from DNR. After the game, the Rattlers' official postgame party will be held at The Distillery at 1142 Mt. Hope Ave. Fans can go to any local Wendy's location to get a buy one, get one free coupon.
