Rattlers Host Bayhawks in Key Confrence Matchup

(Rochester, NY)... Game Notes: The Rochester Rattlers host the Washington Bayhawks on Saturday, July 12th at PAETEC Park at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. The game will also be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com.

The first 1,000 fans will receive a Joe Walters player card, courtesy of Bud Light. The first 3,000 fans will also receive a cowbell from Time Warner Cable. Fans can arrive early and enjoy the pregame party with live music from the Deb Magone Band. It's also a Wendy's Discount Night. Fans can go to a participating Wendy's location to get a buy one, get one free coupon, which is good for any seat location. After the game, the Rattlers' official postgame party will be held at The Distillery at 1142 Mt. Hope Ave.

Night of Champions: Prior to the July 12th game, the Rattlers will honor the local outstanding high school team and individual accomplishments from the 2008 lacrosse season.

The Rattlers are 1-2 lifetime against Washington, which includes a 14-11 loss in a weather-shortened game on June 7th. Rochester was 5-13 against the Bayhawks when they resided in Baltimore.

Rochester (4-3) enters the game in a third-place tie in the Eastern Conference. The Rattlers are coming off a 15-10 loss to the LA Riptide on June 28th. Rochester has now lost three of its last four games after starting the season 3-0. Attackman John Grant, midfielder Joe Walters and defenseman Brodie Merrill will represent the Rattlers at the 2008 MLL All-Star Game on July 17th. Grant is tied for the league lead with 35 points and Merrill is second in scoring among league defensemen with seven points (3+4). Further, Alex Smith is tied for second in the MLL with 49 ground balls.

Washington (3-4) enters the game in a tie for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Since beating Rochester back on June 7th, Washington has dropped its last three games. The streak included a 14-13 setback to the Philadelphia Barrage on June 28th. Goalie Chris Garrity, and midfielders Shawn Nadelen and Kyle Dixon will represent the Bayhawks at the 2008 MLL All-Star Game. Dixon leads the Bayhawks with 26 points after seven games.

The Rochester Rattlers travel to play the New Jersey Pride on Saturday, July 19th at Yurcak Field at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. The Rattlers will hold a Viewing Party at Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange Blvd.). The game also will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com.

SNAKE BITES:

June Swoon: After compiling a 3-0 record in May, the Rattlers went 1-3 in June.

'Get shorty': Rochester leads the league in penalty-killing efficiency, holding opponents to six goals on 38 opportunities (84 percent). Rochester has also scored two shorthanded goals this season.

Viewing Parties: The Rattlers will hold a MLL All-Star Viewing Party on Thursday, July 17th at The Distillery (3010 Winton Road South). The party begins at 10:00 p.m. with the live telecast from Denver on ESPN2. On Saturday, July 19th, the Rattlers will also hold a Viewing Party at 7:00 p.m. at Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange Blvd.). Fans can gather to watch the Rattlers take on the New Jersey Pride. The event will feature members of the Venom Dance Team and a raffle of Rattlers' tickets and prizes.

From indoors to outdoors: The Rattlers have 11 players that spent the last five months playing indoors in the National Lacrosse League. The players that will now shift their talents to the outdoor game include Brett Bucktooth (Buffalo), Colin Doyle (San Jose), John Grant (Rochester), Jordan Hall (New York), Brodie Merrill (Portland), Casey Powell (New York), Gavin Prout (Colorado), Jack Reid (Rochester), Chris Schiller (Rochester), Joe Smith (Buffalo) and Jeff Zywicki (San Jose).

Oh, Canada! Rochester has the most Canadian-born players in the MLL. The Rattlers have six players that hail from Canada and, coincidently, all five were named to the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships. Doyle, Grant, Hall, Merrill, Prout and Zywicki all won gold for Canada.
