Rattlers Have Six Picks in Upcoming MLL College Draft

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rattlers will have the eighth overall selection in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, which will take place on Wednesday, May 28th at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
The Rattlers will hold an MLL Draft Party at Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange St.) at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Venom Dance Team and Rattlers players will attend the event. Expected to attend are Joe Walters and Pat Dutton. Rattlers merchandise and tickets will be raffled off throughout the evening.
The Rattlers have six picks in the draft, which is tied for the third most in the 10-team MLL. The five-round Collegiate Draft features the elite college lacrosse players from the Class of 2008 and will be aired live on ESPN-U at 8:00 p.m. ET. The draft will be conducted in the Bissinger Room, situated on the fourth floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center located on the Stevens campus.
The Collegiate Draft takes place immediately following the Warrior Major League Challenge, an invite-only event during draft day featuring 40 of the top college seniors. Both events are open to the public. The Warrior Major League Challenge, an all-star game featuring invited college seniors and played under MLL Rules, begins at 5:00 p.m. ET and will take place at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
Last year, the Rattlers used the third overall pick to take University of Delaware midfielder Alex Smith. He went on to win the 2007 Cascade Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. Smith helped Rochester to its first postseason berth since the 2005 season with a 9-3 record. He won 190 of 331 face-offs (.574) while ranking among the league leaders with 79 ground balls. In addition, Smith scored one goal with three assists.
Rattlers will open their 2008 MLL season with a road contest on Saturday, May 17th against the Long Island Lizards at 7:00 p.m. at Mitchel Field. The Rattlers' home opener is two weeks later against the two-time defending champion Philadelphia Barrage on Saturday, May 31st at 7:30 p.m.
