Dallas Rattlers News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Rattlers defeated the Long Island Lizards 13-8 in Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, July 6th in their first game of the second half of the 2012 MLL season. The Lizards came into this game second place in the league with a 5-2 record, but with the Rattlers 13-8 defeat, Rochester still stands unbeaten in Sahlen's Stadium this season.
The Lizards opened up the scoring at 2:43 in the first quarter on an unassisted goal by Max Seibald. The Rattlers quickly responded when Jordan MacIntosh fired a shot off of a pass from John Lade at 3:13. Two minutes later, Matt Striebel added a goal for the Rattlers unassisted. With 6:20 left in the first quarter the Lizards equalized with a goal from Brian Langtry from Max Seibald. The Lizards would retake the lead at 11:30 when Will Mangan finished a pass from Ryan Young in front of the net.
The Rattlers brought the game to 3-3 after only 18 seconds of play in the second quarter. Steve DeNapoli blasted a shot from 20 yards and scored unassisted. At 2:36 Kevin Unterstein of the Lizards was penalized with holding. The Rattlers made quick work on the power play when Stephen Boyle scored unassisted, retaking the lead 4-3. Rattler Jordan MacIntosh scored an incredible goal at 8:28 with a behind the back goal top shelf off an assist by Ned Crotty. Crotty returned to the lineup after missing last week with an ankle injury. Rochester native Grant Catalino of the Lizards answered at 9:11 with a goal assisted by Greg Gurenlian. Brian Karalunas was sent off for slashing at 10:59 for slashing. The Rattlers took advantage of the power play again when Ned Crotty scored off of an assist by Dan Hardy at 11:19. The Rattlers lead the Lizards 6-4 at the end of the first half.
The second half started with a goal from 15 yards by Rattler Roy Lang. DeNapoli was flagged with slashing at 4:20. The Rattlers scored shorthanded at 5:53 when Kevin Drew took the ball from midfield to the goal unassisted and slotted the ball into the top corner. The Rattlers scored again at 12:57 with another unassisted Crotty goal. Seibald scored his second goal of the game for the Lizards at 14:40. The Rattlers held their lead after 45 minute of play 9-6.
MacIntosh tallied his third goal of the game at 1:04 from short pass by Striebel in front of the net. Lizard Tommy Palasek scored at 3:19, assisted by Brian Langtry. Rattler Brad Ross quickly responded with a goal of his own at 4:00. Macintosh scored his fourth goal at 9:52 on another Rattlers power play after Unterstein was flagged with Interference at 9:20. Steven Boyle scored the final goal of the game with 24 seconds remaining.
Goalie John Galloway tied a career high with 20 saves against the Lizards, the most saves he's had with a win in 2012. Galloway also only let in eight goals, the lowest number of goals he's allowed in a game. Major League Lacrosse named Galloway the Bud Light Player of the game for his performance against the Lizards.
Rattlers' star A Ned Crotty is coming off an ankle injury and was back in the game for the first time on Friday night. Crotty was expected to play in at least one of the two games versus Long Island this weekend and played up to par with one assist along with two goals. Crotty still leads in team points with 17 and assists with 7. His availability and playing time tomorrow will be a key factor for Rochester in their rematch with Long Island.
Jordan MacIntosh came to play with four goals. With nine goals total in the past two games, MacIntosh is only two points behind Crotty with 15 points overall. The recipe for success in shutting down the Rattlers since their return to Rochester has been to crowd Crotty and the space he likes to utilize behind the goal. With MacIntosh leading a number of weapons currently firing for Rochester in the midfield, the Long Island Lizards will have to at least considering a different defensive approach on the bus ride back to Hofstra University for tomorrow night's game.
The Rattlers will be playing back to back games this weekend because of the All-Star Break last weekend. Tomorrow they will once again face the Lizards at Hofstra College in Long Island hoping to take home another win. The game can be seen live on ESPN2 and ESPN3 beginning at 7PM.
The Rattlers next home game is against the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Friday, July 20th at 7 PM. Tickets can be ordered by calling585.454.5425or by visiting rochesterrattlers.com.
