Dallas Rattlers News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rattlers announced today that they have acquired attackman Jason Coffman from the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse in exchange for Matt Hahn.
Jason joins his brother, Josh, as a member of the Rattlers. Jason Coffman was Long Island's first-round pick (fifth overall) in the 2003 MLL Supplemental Draft.
Coffman played at Division III Salisbury State from 1993-96, where he had one of the most storied careers in the history of college lacrosse. In his four seasons with the Sea Gulls, he amassed 249 goals and 202 assists for 451 points. All three totals are school records and his 451 points are an NCAA record.
The NCAA's all-time leading scorer also won numerous awards. He was the first player in NCAA Division III history to earn First Team All-American honors four times. From 1994-96, he was also named the Jack Turnbull Memorial Award winner, which is given to the outstanding attackman at the Division I, II and III levels. In 1994 and 1995, Coffman was named the USILA Division III Player of the Year as Salisbury State captured the Division III national championship both seasons. In '95, Coffman also earned Team MVP honors. On Dec. 5, 1997, Coffman had his No. 32 retired by Salisbury State.
In the trade, the Rattlers sent midfielder Matt Hahn to Long Island. Last season, the University of Maryland graduate played in 12 games for the Rattlers and registered 11 goals and three assists for 14 points.
The Rochester Rattlers open the 2003 season on Saturday, May 31st against the Bridgeport Barrage at Bishop Kearney Field. The 7:35 p.m. game will kickoff the Rattlers third season in the MLL. Fans can purchase $50 season tickets at www.rochesterrattlers.com or by calling (585) 454-5425.
