Rasmussen to Return as Defenders Head Coach, Perdue Named Defensive Coordinator

Tulsa, OK- The Oklahoma Defenders have announced that Derek Rasmussen will return for his third season as Head Coach. During the 2013 season, the Defenders excelled offensively with Coach Rasmussen calling the plays. They averaged 34.9 points and 210.8 yards-per-game, which was fourth highest in the CPIFL. Wide Receiver Patrick "Packy" Jones was honored post-season and was named to the All-CPIFL team. The Defenders had the third most-effective ground game behind running back KingJack Washington, with a team average of 79.1 rushing yards-per-game.

Rasmussen is assembling the 2014 Defenders Coaching Staff and announced today the hiring of new Defensive Coordinator Steve Perdue. "Coach Perdue brings years of great indoor/arena experience to the table. He's a huge addition to our staff and I'm extremely excited to start working with him," Stated Coach Rasmussen.

Perdue has over 10 years of experience with indoor football as both a player and coach. He was a standout defensive back and safety with the Oklahoma Crude of the NIFL prior to entering coaching with the Amarillo Dusters in 2004. Perdue led the Dusters' record-setting defense before transitioning to the Head Coach in 2005. He continued to make headlines as the Head Coach of the Amarillo Dusters, becoming the first AF2 expansion team to make it to the playoffs.

Perdue commented, "I am excited to join the Oklahoma Defenders family and team. This is a great football town, and I am thankful for the opportunity to help Coach Rasmussen bring a Championship to Tulsa."

The Defenders will hold their first open tryout this Saturday, September 28th, at Lafortune Stadium in Tulsa (5480 S Hudson Avenue). Registration starts at 4:30pm; players can pre-register and pay registration fees by calling 918-403-9926 or email Lamar@oklahomadefenders.com.
