River City Rascals News Release
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. - When can an Independent Minor League team take down a Triple-A giant, in Darren Rovell's "Minor League Baseball Logo Awards Contest" of course.
The River City Rascals, entering as a number six seed in the 2008 best logo in Minor League Baseball bracket, took down the number ten seeded Tucson Sidewinders. The announcement was made around 10 a.m. central time on Tuesday.
In Rovell's blog on cnbc.com, he lists what he feels are the 64 best Minor League baseball logos and lets the fans from around the nation vote in a NCAA basketball tournament style bracket. Over 15,000 fans voted in the opening day of balloting where ten logos squared off. The big surprise of the day came when the number 16 seed Casper Ghosts' logo took down the number one seed overall, the Montgomery Biscuits.
Other winners included the Augusta Greenjackets, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, and the Lansing Lugnuts.
The voting for the remaining of the 64 teams continues through March 31, when a champion will be crowned.
Updates will be provided for the next match-up date involving the River City Rascals when information becomes available.
