River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, MO--The River City Rascals took on the Evansville Otters Friday, June 1, trying to put a five game losing behind them.
The Rascals came out of the gates swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Back-to-back singles by catcher Ken Lup Jr. and right fielder Tim Rowe to lead off the inning were followed by a one out, 2-RBI double by left fielder Trey Hendricks. Hendricks would come around to score later in the inning off an RBI single by designated hitter Anthony Albano.
The Rascals added to their lead in the second, when second baseman Andrew Sweet led off the inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI single from Rowe.
The score would remain the same until the sixth, when the Otters were finally able to break through against Rascals starter Damien Ursin. Ursin, who had not given up a hit entering the inning, allowed two runs to score on the strength of back-to-back doubles from designated hitter Adam Heffron and right fielder Tim Auty.
The Otters would tie the game in the eighth as Heffron scored on an RBI single from Auty. After a quick bottom of the eighth for the Rascals, the Otters were able to score the go ahead run in the ninth when second baseman Kyle Smith drove in third baseman Steve Chinn with an RBI single.
The Rascals were unable to mount a comeback against Otters closer Mike Bille in the ninth, who recorded his league leading sixth save of the season as well as his Otters career record 26th save.
Gary Cahoon (0-1) pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit and two walks for the loss, while Jimmy Conroy (1-2) threw three shutout innings for the Otters to record the win.
The Rascals will travel to Evansville tomorrow for a rematch against the Otters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
