River City Rascals News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL - The River City Rascals continued their magical run this season, completing the three game sweep over Windy City with a 6-2 victory Friday night at Standard Bank Stadium. The Rascals will open up their first Frontier League Championship Series Wednesday night in game one at T.R. Hughes Ballpark or on the road in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Rascals (3-0) used seven great innings from Daniel Howard (1-0) and some early scoring to topple the two-time defending champions. Chad Maddox launched a two run home run in the first after a JoJo Batten double. River City took a 2-0 lead and would never trail in the game.

Ryan Wehrle put the Rascals up 4-0 with a two run single in the third against starter, Dustin Pease (0-2). Scott Houin and Chad Maddox both singled and a stole a bag to put move to second and third with two outs. Wehrle followed the single to drive in his first two runs of the series.

Windy City (0-3) cut into the lead with one in the third and another in the fifth. Guillermo Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly in the third with nobody out to put the Bolts down 4-1. After a Robert Perry single to load the bases for the second time in the inning, J.T. Restko flew out to right and Pete Paris was caught in between third and home for the double play.

Howard allowed another tally in the fifth on a Gilberto Mejia single, which proved to be the final run of the year for Windy City. Howard went seven frames and allowed two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Tony Marsala worked two scoreless frames for his first save in postseason play. The St. Charles, MO native surrendered only one hit and struck out one in the victory.

Pease was tagged with his second loss in the series, going 4.2 innings and allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.

Maddox led the way with three hits and two knocked in while Houin, Banks and Wehrle all finished with two hits.

The Rascals will now play the waiting game for their next opponent. Lake Erie defeated Kalamazoo 4-2 in game three and will look for the series victory tomorrow night. If the Crushers hold on and defeat the Kings, River City would host game one on Wednesday night. If Kalamazoo wins the final two games, the Rascals would open in Kalamazoo.
