Raptors sign pair of former Alabama A&M standouts

Huntsville, Ala. â Tennessee Valley Raptors head coach Dick Adams found a couple of local gems during his team's free-agent tryout on Saturday.
Former Alabama A&M linebackers Wesley Bynam and Travoris Nunn turned plenty of heads during the workout and both have signed contracts to play for the Raptors during the inaugural 2005 United Indoor Football season.
The Raptors have also signed former Clark-Atlanta lineman DeVaul Neal and receiver Michael Carrawell, who has over three years of indoor experience and played collegiately at Quincy University.
"Wesley did a nice job covering during the tryout and looked great during the one-on-one's,'' Adams said. "He came out of a good program as did Travis, who was in with the running backs and showed some good quickness, ran some good routes and caught the football. He could also become a two-way player since he played linebacker in college and we're going to need those kinds of guys."
Bynam (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) now serves as an assistant coach at Alabama A&M, where he lettered four seasons and served as team co-captain. In 2003 while playing linebacker and strong safety, Bynam played in 12 games and had 46 tackles, one sack and three interceptions.
Nunn (5-11, 234) was an All-SWAC linebacker for the Bulldogs and had 49 tackles, five sacks and three fumble recoveries during his senior season of 2002.
"Neal and Carrawell both come in with great recommendations,'' Adams said.
Neal (6-2, 294) completed his eligibility at Clark-Atlanta in 2002. He was selected the team's offensive lineman of the year and was a preseason All-American in 2001.
Carrawell (5-7, 160) spent 2003 playing for the Evansville Bluecats in the National Indoor Football League, catching 12 passes for 150 yards and returning nine kickoffs for an average of 22.
Schedule Change: Tennessee Valley opens training camp March 1 and starts the season March 19 on the road against the Evansville Bluecats. The game was originally scheduled for March 18.
The Raptors then travel to Ohio to face the Dayton Warbirds on April 2 before opening their home slate April 16 against the Tupelo FireAnts. Kickoff at the VBC is set for 7:30 p.m.
